Air Distribution System for Wind-Vented Roofing Performance

The Qorbo Air Distribution Strip is an engineered component designed to create controlled airflow beneath roofing membranes in vent-ballasted commercial roofing systems.
 

Working alongside Quadravent® technology, the air distribution system helps facilitate pressure equalization under the membrane, allowing wind forces to contribute to membrane stability rather than causing uplift.
 

This engineered airflow pathway supports consistent pressure distribution across the roof surface and improves the system’s ability to resist wind uplift. 

Purpose of the Air Distribution Strip

The strip creates air pathways beneath the membrane to support the pressure dynamics of a wind-vented roofing system. 
 

Key functions include: 

  • Providing structured airflow channels beneath the roofing membrane 
     

  • Supporting pressure equalization throughout the roof area 
     

  • Allowing airflow to move efficiently toward roof vents 
     

  • Assisting in the reduction of wind uplift forces across the membrane 
     

  • Improving the overall stability of loose-laid roofing systems 


Within the system, the strip works alongside components such as the air distribution box to guide airflow and maintain consistent pressure movement beneath the membrane.

How the System Works

The airflow process begins when wind moves across the roof surface and passes over Quadravent® ports. 
 

The process includes several stages: 
 

  • Wind moving across vent ports creates localized lower air pressure. 
     

  • This pressure difference pulls air from beneath the roofing membrane. 
     

  • Air travels along the distribution strips toward the vents. 
     

  • Pressure beneath the membrane gradually lowers across the roof area. 
     

  • Reduced pressure beneath the membrane helps counteract wind uplift above the membrane. 
     

Through this mechanism, the air distribution system helps convert wind activity into a stabilizing force for the roofing membrane. 

Typical Layout in a Roofing System

Air distribution strips are typically arranged in two main configurations to ensure effective airflow throughout the roof structure. 

Pattern Scrim Layout

Installed in a star-like pattern around each Quadravent® to distribute airflow evenly beneath the membrane. 

Edge Scrim Layout

Placed parallel to roof edges where the membrane is secured to the roof substrate to maintain airflow pathways along perimeter areas. 

These layout patterns allow airflow to move efficiently across the roof and toward vent locations, often working in coordination with an air distribution box to maintain consistent airflow channels.
